KAGEURI

They call themselves KAGEURI — 影売り — though no ledger on Earth still holds that word.

They are galaxy traders. A night guild that left the first markets when the pits went silent and took the trade into the dark between systems. A seat is not a costume. It is a license to sit the floor wherever a print can still be made: neon harbors on drowned moons, dust stations that never see a sun, cities that borrowed Tokyo’s night and never gave it back.

Each KAGEURI keeps a pet. Not a mascot. A scout. They tame them on the worlds they pass — a horned lizard from a violet jungle, a wire-rabbit born in a scrap-yard crater, a spider that drinks static off antennae, a small machine that learned to love a shoulder. The pet hunts the tape. The body sits. When a sale prints, the scout takes the thicker sip.

They do not vote. They do not publish doctrine. They keep a private pit on Robinhood Chain because the gas there is cheap enough for a night that never closes. Four thousand four hundred forty-four seats. Two genders on the floor. Pets on the shoulder. The city behind them is always some other planet’s midnight.

Some of them came from the first Earth desk and never went home. Some were born in the crawl between jump-gates, raised on order-flow and rain. All of them know the same rule: you do not chase a print. You sit until it comes to you. The pet does the running. The guild does the waiting. The floor does not close.

They keep no flag. They keep a shift. On a good night the tape is thick with other people’s fear. On a bad night the pet still sits on the shoulder and watches the dark as if the dark owed it money. Travel is the job. Taming is the craft. Sitting is the oath.
